BART service restored after cracked rail found near Lake Merritt station

By Robert Salonga

Service has been fully restored after a cracked rail discovered north of the Lake Merritt station caused system-wide delays on BART this morning, , the transit agency said.

The crack was detected about 9:15 a.m., according to a BART release, and a temporary fix was in place by noon. Passengers headed south of Lake Merritt had been advised to transfer to special Fremont-bound trains at the 12th Street station in Oakland.

The rail will be more fully repaired overnight.
