BART adds new garage at Pleasant Hill

By David Goll

The busy Pleasant Hill BART station will become the latest to add a new parking garage.

A 1,547-space parking structure adjacent to the station's existing garage is scheduled to open June 30. The two parking structures are linked by vehicle bridges, so they will essentially become a single parking garage.

This will be the first project completed as part of the Pleasant Hill BART station transit village, which also eventually will include residential, office and retail components. The village is being built as part of a public/private partnership comprised of Contra Costa County and its Redevelopment Agency, the Bay Area Rapid Transit District, Avalon Bay Communities and Millennium Partners.

Because the station's existing surface parking lot will be redeveloped into the transit village, it will be closed as of 2 a.m. June 28. A temporary lot a short distance away on Las Juntas Way will open to provide additional parking while the transit village is being built.

As a result of the reconfiguration, the BART station's passenger drop off and accessible drop off areas will be relocated to the northwestern side of the station on D Street.
