BART officials get 2% pay raises

By Staff

The Bay Area Rapid Transit District's four board-appointed officers were given 2 percent raises during a closed session at today's BART board meeting.

The raises are for General Manager Thomas Margro, district Secretary Kenneth Duran, chief lawyer Sherwood Wakeman III and Controller-Treasurer Scott Schroeder.

Their raises are retroactive to Jan. 1.

According to BART spokesman Linton Johnson, their 2 percent raise equals the percentage salary increase that all BART staff received.

Non-union employees received their 2 percent raises on Jan. 1 and unionized employees received their 2 percent raises last July 1.

The raises are based on four-year union contracts that the board approved in the summer of 2005.

The scheduled raises are 0 percent in the first year, 2 percent in the second, which is this year, and 3 percent in the third and fourth years.

The board-appointed officers were in the same boat as other BART employees in not getting a raise last year, Johnson said.
