Tiger attacks S.F. Zoo employee

By Staff

A worker at the San Francisco Zoo was mauled on the arms today by a Siberian tiger.

San Francisco Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White says the big cat handler may lose one of her arms as a result of her injuries. The trainer's identity has not been released, but a spokesman for the zoo says she's worked their since 1997.

The attack happened shortly after the daily "Big Cat Feeding." It seems the tiger named Tatiana got a little excited and reached through the bars, grabbing the handler by both arms and roughing her up.

Tatiana came to the San Francisco about a year ago from the Denver Zoo. A spokeswoman there says they never had any troubles with Tatiana.

The San Francisco Zoo is one of the only zoos in the U-S where visitors can see big cat feedings.
