BART elects women to president, VP postsBy Staff
BART's board of directors this week unanimously elected two women to the agency's most powerful posts--board president and vice president.
The agency -- which is getting support from the Silicon Valley Leadership Group to fund an extension into the Silicon Valley -- chose Lynette Sweet as president and Gail Murray as vice president.
Sweet represents District 7, which includes Albany, Emeryville, El Cerrito, Richmond, San Pablo, and parts of Berkeley, Oakland, El Sobrante and San Francisco.
Murray represents District 1, which includes Walnut Creek, Concord, Clayton, Pleasant Hill, Orinda, Moraga, Lafayette, and part of Danville.
Meanwhile, BART reported it expects a record holiday ridership to San Francisco International Airport of 52,000 riders -- 5 percent more than the year-ago period -- during the Christmas holiday travel time.
