Eastbound Bay Bridge still closed

By Quynh Tran

The eastbound lower deck of the Bay Bridge from San Francisco to the East Bay will remain closed throughout Labor Day weekend, until 5 a.m. Tuesday.

The bridge closure is required as part of a three-day Caltrans demolition project to remove 1,000 feet of freeway from Beal Street east to the Bank of America clock tower building in San Francisco.

Motorists are being detoured off I-80 at Seventh Street in San Francisco. The First Street, Fifth Street, Eighth Street, Essex Street and Sterling Street on ramps to eastbound I-80 are also closed until 5 a.m. Tuesday.

Travelers are advised to use BART, MUNI, AC Transit, the Alameda-Oakland ferry and the Vallejo Baylink ferry to travel between San Francisco and the East Bay.

BART is running additional trains until 1 a.m. Tuesday. The Alameda-Oakland ferry has additional scheduled trips.

The westbound direction of the Bay Bridge is open to traffic throughout Labor Day weekend.
