Couple die in San Bruno fire

By Wyatt Buchanan

A San Bruno couple long active in veteran affairs died early Sunday in a two-alarm house fire at their home, according to the San Bruno Fire Department.

Investigators have released the name of only one of the victims, Angela Rita Dunbar, 73.

But sources say that the fire also claimed the life of her husband, Richard, who was scheduled to be sworn in as the commander of the San Mateo County district of the American Legion on Sunday.

The pair died inside their home at 3721 Highland Drive.

Fire crews arrived shortly after midnight and saw flames and smoke on the second level of the home, Fire Chief Dan Voreyer said. There were no smoke detectors in the home, he said.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but investigators believe it was accidental, Voreyer said.
