Work begins on Millbrae condo complex

Silverstone Communities, a homebuilding company that specializes in building housing near heavy traffic areas, broke ground Thursday on the new Park Broadway condominium complex in Millbrae.

The new complex, which is located along El Camino Real, is a four-story development featuring 96 homes on the top three floors and 13 live-work loft spaces on the ground level, representatives from Silverstone Communities reported.

The homes vary from 704 to 1,970 square feet and each includes from one to three bedrooms.

"With a location just one mile from a major transportation hub and so close to shopping and dining, this new community will really help to revitalize our downtown," Millbrae Mayor Robert Gottschalk said in a statement. 'It ties into 'smart growth' and the Millbrae Station Area Specific Plan we've been working to implement since 1998."

Millbrae officials are specifically working to develop more housing in the city's high-density transit areas, such as the Millbrae Bay Area Rapid Transit station and the Millbrae Caltrain station.

Construction on the condominium complex is expected to be finished by the spring of 2008.
