Brandon Gill headed for trial
By Staff

A man facing a murder charge for fatally stabbing a stranger in San Bruno in 2004 was determined today to be mentally competent to stand trial in San Mateo County Superior Court.

Brandon Louis Gill, 29, was sent to Napa State Hospital to undergo psychiatric treatment in 2005 after he was found not competent to stand trail for allegedly killing 64-year-old Romeo Lansang on March 25, 2004, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office. However, after further doctor's reports Gill's status has been restored to competency and will now face the charges against him.

Gill pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity in court today.

According to police reports, Lansang, of South San Francisco, was approached from behind and stabbed around 1 p.m. in the 700 block of Easton Avenue in San Bruno.

After the stabbing, Gill allegedly then tried but failed to carjack a nearby car, according to the district attorney's office. Gill allegedly fled the scene but was later arrested and held in custody without bail.

Gill will reappear in court May 29 for further hearings on his trial. He remains in custody on a no bail status.
