Oakland man sought in San Bruno crime
By Gary Klien
A suspected serial bandit from the East Bay has been named as a "person of interest" in two recent armed robberies in San Rafael, police said Wednesday.
Andrew Marcus Gonzalez, 21, of Oakland is wanted for questioning in an April 18 robbery at the Motel 6 and Sunday's robbery at the City Hall Records music company, said San Rafael police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher. Both businesses are in the Canal neighborhood.
Marin authorities have taken an interest in Gonzalez because he was identified Wednesday as a suspect in a spree of robberies, burglaries and chases throughout Northern California. Gonzalez's description is similar to that of the robber in San Rafael, Rohrbacher said.
Police said Gonzalez has been identified as the suspect in a Richmond carjacking Friday and two armed hotel robberies in Fairfield on Monday.
On Tuesday night, he allegedly led Oakland police on a chase in the car stolen during the Richmond carjacking. The driver escaped after crashing the car.
Gonzalez is also suspected of robbing a San Bruno motel on April 20 and committing burglaries as far south as Salinas, police said.
"Gonzalez has a history of drug use and has told his family that he would not be taken alive," said Fairfield police Lt. Al Bagos.
Gonzalez might also be responsible for a burglary and auto theft late last month in the Strawberry area, said sheriff's Sgt. Mike Crain.
