Police warn of phoney plumbers
By Staff
The San Bruno Police Department this week issued a warning to residents to be wary of possible imposters, due to a recent residential near-burglary by three pseudo-plumbers.
On March 31, someone claiming to be a plumber told a resident in the 600 block of Third Avenue that he was working on the neighbor's house and needed access to the backyard to look for a pipe, according to police.
While the first suspect made conversation with the resident for several minutes, two other suspects entered the house but appeared startled by other residents in the home, police said.
The two suspects in the house reportedly said they needed to view the interior to be sure that the vibration from a jackhammer wouldn't damage the items inside the house. However, they left abruptly after the confrontation.
No items were stolen but the Police Department is warning that similar ruses have led to burglaries in the past. The Police Department suggests that residents verify identification of utility employees with the service they represent and report any suspicious activity immediately. |
