BART Officials Fail to Reach On-Time, Cleanliness Goals
By Staff
BART indicated last year that it would be hiring more employees to clean trains and stations, and to improve its on-time performance.
However, it appears the transit agency has thus far failed to meet its goals. On-time performance stood at approximately 95% during the last three months of 2007. The goal was 96% on-time performance.
Keeping trains clean also requires education, since passenger loads are increasing. "We're not there but we're moving in the right direction, even with the influx of passengers," explained BART spokesman Linton Johnson. "We have lots of new people who don't know about the rules to not eat or drink on the trains, so we're trying to keep up with educating those folks as well as keeping up with cleaning our trains. So, you know, things are moving in the right direction."
Technical glitches are apparently unavoidable, as well. One day last quarter, there was a computer problem that delayed 200 BART trains. |
