Man killed by BART train identified
By Staff

A 50-year-old man who was hit and killed by a BART train has been identified as Jorge Liderman, a Bay Area composer and UC Berkeley music professor.

BART officials say Liderman was struck by a northbound train at the El Cerrito Plaza station on Sunday morning. Investigators believe he committed suicide.

Born in Bueno Aires, Liderman attended college in Israel and earned his doctorate in composition at the University of Chicago. He joined Berkeley's music department in 1989.

Liderman's music has been performed regularly both in the U.S. and overseas. His chamber concerto "Furthermore" is set for a world premiere Monday night at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco.
