New bike lockers at some BART stations
By Rachel Gordon

BART passengers who ride their bicycles to the stations will have a new option for parking their two-wheelers if they don't want to take them on the trains: For 3 cents an hour, they can stow them in a secure locker.

BART plans to install up to 900 of the "e-lockers," which users will be able to lock and unlock with a prepaid electronic card. Under the program - approved unanimously Thursday by the BART Board of Directors - the lockers will be available on a first come, first served basis.

Bicyclists still will be able to get exclusive use of the old-style keyed locker by renting them for up to a year. Under the existing program, the annual rental charge is $30. In stations where the e-lockers will be installed - Pleasant Hill, Ashby, San Leandro, West Oakland and Dublin-Pleasanton - the fee will increase to $40.
