Woman robbed across from Pleasanton BART station
By Roman Gokhman

PLEASANTON--A woman who had just left the Pleasanton BART station was robbed Thursday night by a man who ran up behind her, threatened her and snatched her purse.

The woman was not hurt, the robber escaped, but police said there was little of value in the purse.

"She had her wallet and her cell phone in her pocket," Pleasanton police Sgt. Mike Tryphonas said. "They got away with a scarf, $3 in cash and her checkbook."

The robbery occurred at 8:55 p.m. The 55-year-old woman was in town for business and had just gotten off a BART train, crossed Owens Drive and began walking south on Willow Road.

That's when she was approached from behind by a man who grabbed her purse and ran through some bushes to a car that had one other person inside.

"We don't have a description of the other person," Tryphonas said. The car sped off eastbound on Owens Drive.

"He made a threat but did not display any weapon," Tryphonas said.

The car was described as an older model four-door sedan that was cream or off-white in color, possibly with a darker-shaded roof.

The robber was 6 feet tall, about 180 to 200 pounds and with a round face. He was described as African American and had a thin mustache. He wore a red hooded sweatshirt, police said.

Police later found some items from the purse scattered on Hacienda Drive on-ramp to eastbound Interstate 580.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call police at 925-931-5100.
