Virgin Kicks Off SFO To San Diego Service
By Staff
SAN FRANCISCO--Local airline Virgin America kicked off service to San Diego Tuesday morning with a launch party at San Francisco International Airport.
A "San Diego beach party with a San Francisco twist" was held at the airport's Aviation Museum and Library, the airport announced.
The party was marked with a VIP sendoff for the inaugural flight, as well as remarks by Virgin Group Chairman and Founder Sir Richard Branson and Virgin America President and Chief Executive Officer David Cush.
Virgin America offers mood lighting, a selection of 3,000 MP3 music tracks and live television on its planes, all part of what airline officials call "the most advanced in-flight entertainment system in the skies."
The company is based in Burlingame and has brought hundreds of new jobs to the Bay Area.
The airline aims to be one of the first in the U.S. to offer air-to-ground broadband Internet service for every seat.
The airline says it plans to provide the service sometime next year. |
