Flight Out Of SFO Makes Emergency Landing
By Staff
A United plane from the San Francisco International Airport made an emergency landing at an airport in Omaha, Nebraska late Friday morning.
The plane was flying to JFK in New York City.
An indicator light showed there was a fire in the cargo hold.
The plane landed safely in Omaha with no injuries. There was no fire, NBC11 reported.
San Francisco passenger Susan Bobulsky told NBC11 the passengers were frightened during the final 30 minutes of the flight.
She said workers in hazmat suits came on to the plane as soon as it landed and told everyone they needed to prepare to make an emergency evacuation.
In the end, they did not need to evacuate.
An airport spokesman in Omaha said the plane would be checked out Friday to see why the light went on.
It's not clear how long the passengers will be delayed in Omaha.
The plane was 50 miles outside the city when the pilot made an emergency call.
Omaha Fire Department engines were standing by when the plane landed.
Fire dispatchers in Omaha said there were 71 people on board the plane.
The plane landed just before 11:30 a.m. central time.
It's not clear where the plane was headed. |
