Storm Brings Flights Delays To SFO, Oakland
By Staff

Two of three major Bay Area airports saw moderate delays Friday due to weather locally or elsewhere in the U.S.

San Francisco International Airport experienced up to two-hour delays on both arrivals and departures.

"We're on a ground-delay program from 9 a.m. to midnight," said airport duty manager Linda Perry. "It is raining very hard, so we are seeing delays for the arrivals and subsequent departures."

The delays were caused by local rain and wind as well as nasty weather in the Midwest and East Coast, she said.

Oakland International Airport wasn't experiencing "significant" delays, according to spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes. But weather at other airports had caused flights to arrive late, causing departures to leave an average of 20 to 30 minutes late, Barnes said.

"Anyone leaving today or picking someone up should call the airline" and check the flight time, she said.

Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport flights were not being delayed by the weather, according to an airport duty manager.

"It's a wet, blustery day but it has not affected local operations for us," he said.
